5 Brookie's Gin Cocktails That Will Inspire You to Buy Local

At the Cape Byron Distillery, the Brookie's team keep true to the time-honoured traditions and art of distillation whilst creating spirits that capture and showcase the unique terroir of the Northern Rivers, greater Byron Bay region. 

With multiple native fruits and berries used as botanicals in their products it's no wonder they're quickly becoming an Australian staple. They're very much at the forefront of our vastly expanding homegrown spirits industry.

Here are 5 cocktails using their amazing products that showcase them perfectly and will impress your friends along the way.

1. Coocoomba

The first cocktail uses Brookie's Byron Dry Gin. Brookies Dry is Hand-crafted and distilled with 26 botanical, 18 of which are native botanicals foraged from the heart of the Byron Bay Hinterland. 

Cucumber peel to garnish

Muddle cucumber in cocktail shaker. Add all ingredients & shake w/ ice, then double strain into ice-filled old fashioned glass.

 

2. Bangalow Mule

The Bangalow Mule uses Brookie's Bryon Slow Gin which is a rare gin made from a unique rainforest fruit native to the subtropical region of Byron Bay, the Davidson PlumBrookie’s Slow Gin is the first of its kind made in the traditional style of the English ‘Sloe’ gin, 

Build ingredients in a glass over ice & stir. Squeeze and top with lime wedge.

 

3. Byron Fling

 

The Byron Fling showcases Mac a versatile little nutter of a liqueur made from locally sourced roasted Macadamia Nuts & toasted Native Australian Wattle-seed. The end result is the ‘Mac Daddy’ of all nut liqueurs.

  • 45ml Mac. Liqueur
  • 30ml passionfruit purée
  • 30ml sparkling wine
  • 15ml soda water
  • Garnish with edible flower

Build in tumbler glass over ice & stir. Add edible flower garnish and enjoy!

 

4. Shirl's Spiked Americano

Shirl's Spiked Americano uses Shirl the Pearl 2020 Harvest, a seasonal edition Cumquat Gin with fresh uplifting notes, zesty characteristics, and a long finish. Expect refreshing waves of orange blossom.

  • 30ml Shirl the Pearl Cumquat Gin
  • 15ml Campari bitter aperitif
  • 15ml sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
  • Soda water
  • Garnish with wild rosemary & cumquat

Build in a tall glass over ice. Top with soda and stir. Too easy.

 

5. Fireside

Then we have the Fireside a perfect combination cocktail using both Brookie's Dry Gin and their Mac Liqueur. This one packs a punch for all the right reasons.

  • 30ml Brookie’s Dry Gin
  • 8ml Mac. Liqueur
  • 8ml Averna amaro
  • 15ml Mr Black Coffee liqueur
  • 15ml Homemade spiced syrup (see here for an example recipe, but feel free to play around!)
  • 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters

Garnished with flamed orange peel & cinnamon stick

Build all ingredients and stir with ice. Then, strain over fresh ice in an old fashioned glass and add garnishes.
