The July Lineup From The Secret Bottle Wine Club

This month we're looking at some contemporary classic wines coming out of Australia at the moment.

From an amazing classic Pinot Gris to an undeniably superb Pinot Noir that was a firm favourite amongst the Secret Bottle team.

Secret Bottle ships subscriptions monthly at the anniversary of your sign up date for the wine club. This is a recurring monthly subscription, cancel or pause anytime. Or if you would like to purchase individual bottles of any wines on our list simply click their respective hyperlinks throughout this post and add to cart.

LE BON 2019 YARRA VALLEY CHARDONNAY

A light, refreshing take on classic Chardonnay, with all the classic Chardy touches we love - brioche, mandarin, crisp fresh pear, comforting well-buttered toast - reimagined in the context of something a little silkier and lighter-bodied.

MR RIGGS 2021 MRS. PINOT GRIS

The “Mrs.” Pinot Gris from Mr Riggs is great fun even before a sip, with a gently honeyed aroma bursting from the glass.

Yellow seems to be the theme, with banana, honey, nashi pear and controlled lemon acidity, and there’s even a golden edge to that beautiful silvery PG grey.

THOUSAND CANDLES 2019 GATHERING FIELD SAUVIGNON BLANC

It’s Sauv Blanc, but not as we know it - while there’s breezy, quaffable mouthfeel and loads of fresh fruit, it’s also bringing the unexpected profile of dried apricot, passionfruit and white flowers.

Light and bright, almost slippery in the mouth, and works as wonderfully solo as it would with an entrée of goat’s cheese & bruschetta.

LE BON 2021 YARRA VALLEY PINOT NOIR

The firm office favourite, in a hard-to-beat crowd, of the SB wines this month, this is bright & achingly juicy, with berries, cherry, some toasty smoky mushroom earth notes, and plenty of fruity fragrance.

Would probably suit slight chilling, if you aren’t too cold in this shocker of a winter or can bear to keep the bottle until the warmer months.

MR RIGGS 2021 YACCA PADDOCK TEMPRANILLO

A tart and juicy Tempranillo from Secret Bottle favourites Mr Riggs. This one pours a gorgeous bright maroon colour and shows structured, silky tannin and varietal notes of sour cherry and wild fruits. Some bright almost bubblegum notes, possibly courtesy of semi-carbonic maceration.

Sourced exclusively from the Yacca Paddock vineyard in Kuitpo, Adelaide Hills, a forested region popular with campers, hikers and sightseers.

THOUSAND CANDLES 2019 GATHERING FIELD RED BLEND

A “Bordeaux-style” blend, but with plenty of Yarra terroir shining through it’s as much cork hat as it is beret.

Foresty vegetable notes, freshly dried parsley, wild berries and plenty of luxurious rum-and-raisin chocolate notes. The firm structure, with super-crisp acidity balancing insistent tannin, is perfect for the style.
