Our Notes

We love Taylors wines, especially the Jaraman range, which is a great value wine that pleases everyone. This Shiraz is a blend from the Clare Valley and the McLaren Vale in South Australia making a smooth ripe wine with a bit of spice.

Winemakers Comments

The luscious elegance of the Clare Valley fruit marries superbly with the slightly peppery fruit from McLaren Vale.

At release, the wine has a deep cerise red colour to the centre with a vibrant purple hue to the edges. There are lifted aromas of black plum and blackberry fruit along with a hint of coffee bean and spice.

This is a luscious wine with layers of flavours of dark berry fruit, ripe cherries and plum along with attractive oak characters of roasted coffee beans and spice. Overall, the wine is well-balanced with well-integrated tannins providing the palate with firm structure and persistent length.

Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.

About the Winery

The Taylor family's long-standing association with the Clare Valley begins in the late 1950s when as Sydney wine merchants, they partnered with the Clare Valley Co-operative to bottle and distribute their own wines under the Chateau Clare label.

Then, inspired by the great producers of Bordeaux, and with a vision to craft wines that rival the best in the world, the Taylor family begin an exploration to find the perfect plot of land on which to establish their family estate. On July 20, 1969, their quest brought them to a site by the Wakefield River in South Australia's Clare Valley. So on the same day that Neil Armstrong takes man's first steps onto the moon, Bill Taylor takes his first steps on the soil that will eventually become the family estate.

PHILOSOPHY

THREE GENERATIONS OF WINEMAKING

"We rest on the principle that the finest wines are those made with the greatest dedication and care. Above all our imperative is to 'respect the fruit'."

Land & Sea

Sustainability at the Winery

Taylors goal is to be Australia's best wine company applying best practice principles in environmental management to enhance sustainable business activities and products. Taylors favour the use of the most innovative techniques available to improve energy efficiency, water conservation and packaging.

They take all measures available to prevent or eliminate as far as possible the production of waste or pollution. Through this holistic approach to environmental management, Taylors aim to achieve sustainable land and biodiversity management outcomes for the present and future.

The Seahorse

Taylors Symbol of Sustainability

For over fifty years seahorses have been the symbol of Taylors family winery. On first glance, winemakers and marine scientists seem like unlikely allies. But they do face a common problem - climate change. Seahorses, much like grapevines, are indicator species that raise the alarm for serious climate-related issues. It's very important we do what we can to reverse their population decline before it's too late.

At national and global scales, Taylors partner with two organisations that are working to protect seahorses and secure thriving populations of these quirky fishes.

19 crimes

Although the 19 crimes blend is by far my favourite, I was keen to try the whole Red series, The Shiraz was very nice and I would definitely recommend this and the other 19 crimes to anyone 🙃
