What the Experts Say

(Review is of the inaugural 2011 vintage)

For all the doom and gloom about the 2011 vintage, it has produced a number of lovely wines. This white from McLaren Vale is one of them.

Such a fragrant wine. Lovely to smell. Lime blossoms and mandarine skins. Some green, crisp, nashi pear-like characters too. It’s all up front fragrance and flavour before anlging dry and lean through the finish. Needs food but good clobber.

90/100 - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

Our Notes

Most popular in Sardinia and in France, the Vermentino grape here produces a deeply aromatic wine in a pale straw colour, dry and well-structured with notes of pineapple and white peach.

Very heavy on the intricate tropical notes, vanilla and citrus. An ideal food wine.

Winemakers Comments

First produced in 2011, this Sardinian variety performs well in warm and Mediterranean climates where it is able to retain great levels of natural acidity. With its light, delicate, floral aromas, citrus flavours, crisp acidity and great texture, it complements a wide range of foods.

About the Winemaker

When partners Helen and Dr Jim Watts purchased the vineyards (with, yes, a creek and a number of foxes) that eventually formed the core of Fox Creek, they were advised that the area’s black clay soils were unsuitable for winemaking.

The gradual growth of the Fox Creek project – from contract winemaking to a private label and a host of awards and recognitions, and internationally as exporting began in earnest – has well and truly proven that wrong.

Very satisfying

Purchased based upon it's win in Germany. It's a wonderful sauv blanc for an afternoon with a few dips and friends. Not a patch on Cloudy Bay, equals Dog Point and Craggy Range, better than Phillip Shaw or Shaw&Smith. I'll buy again as it's great to have an Australian Sauv blanc in the house not ruined by the addition of semillion.

Great gift idea!

Got a bottle of Verve personalised and it was a great surprise. Can’t comment on the taste because she won’t open it. Lol

Stoneleigh Wild Valley Pinot Gris

A most drinkable pinot gris with a slightly sweeter flavour without the harsher overtones of similar products.
