Warramate stretches back to 1970, and brings forth fruit from non-irrigated vines. It’s under the stable of Yarra Yering these days of course.

This is delicious drinking, bristling with acidity, squeaky texture, vigorous citrusy freshness. Scents of stainless steel, green apple, wet fern. Flavours of lime on green apple, faint talc-like nature to texture, a core of pin-point acidity stretching long. Neat and tidy, fresh and frisky. Nicely done.

Cloudy and unfined, this “Light Bright Summer Red” comes with a suggestion to serve chilled, which we’d definitely recommend you try. A juicy mix of tart and sweet with an unfussy approach; think of this as our little bit of summery Christmas in July for you.

Winemakers Comments

Light Bright Summer Red (Pinot Noir) is made to be drunk. Utterly delicious!!  

We aim to keep this wine fun and without the pretence that Pinot Noir always needs to be analysed.

Minimal time on skins creates a wine with minimal tannin so the wine can be chilled without a stringent mouth feel.                                                         

Portions barrel fermented but predominately stainless steel to capture bright red and blue fruits. 

Nose: Blueberry, rhubarb bramble, wild red cherries, mountain herbs and an overlying cool mint freshness.                                                         

Palate: Delicate, juicy and delicious. Don’t overthink such a beautiful thing!

Best-mate Hersey winemakers Jono Hersey and Damon Koerner, working from revitalised premises established in the ‘90s by Australia’s first qualified female winemaker, stick to an honest approach: wild yeast, picked early, minimal fining and processing. What you see is what you get is what you drink.

Offbeat but drinkable is the name of the game, and all at great prices - we can heartily recommend the sparkling rosé, and would’ve featured it this month were we able!
