This is a fine style of shiraz.

You’d go this – with relish. It’s a cool climate style of shiraz which, at the same time, boasts plenty of fruit power. It tastes of aniseed, blueberry and black cherry and crushes garden herbs, woodsmoke, walnuts and dry spices into the mix. It’s an interesting wine and a pure, plain, pleasurable one too. Complex but succulent, you could say.

Our Notes

A subtle but assertive sipper from chilly Geelong, this is a style of Australian Shiraz that’s less fruit-forward than you might expect, with nutty and herbaceous notes of olives, aniseed, and tobacco all hiding in this viscous deep purple beauty.

A terroir-forward approach: tasty grapes in prime soil, handled carefully by a team that lets those elements shine. 

Winemakers Comments

An attractive deep violet colour in the glass. Lifted fruit aromas of licorice, black olive and allspice speak of vineyard rather than the winemaker’s toolkit. When tasted, powerful fruit flavour matched to medium weight is cut with a fine textural tannin input. The long in flavour finish, is matched to fresh natural acidity that completes/balances the wine. An age-worthy refined wine.

The passion project of winemaker Scott Ireland, Provenance Wines grew from Ireland’s experience in contract winemaking and work with small growers and vignerons.

With nine vineyards scattered over Geelong, Ballarat and Henty, Provenance is named for their mission to truly reflect the regional and microregional character of its carefully-chosen “patchwork quilt” of operations.
