Subtle on the nose, brash on the palate, with stewed pears and mint. Lovers of stonefruit notes’ll be into this one, too, and a vibrant acidity keeps it from being austere. Bringing a lesser-planted variety to prime Barossa real estate was a gamble, but it’s paid off.
From The Winemaker
Crisp, slinky and displaying a swift, briney flow across the palate, Vermentino is a wine that we love here at Yelland & Papps.
It originally hails from the Italian wine region of Liguria and the Mediterranean Islands of Sardinia and Corsica. Up in the famous northern Italian wine region of Piemonte they call it ‘Favorita’…. A synonym that we love as it just seems to sum up the wine.
We pick our Vermentino fruit in the evening to retain all that wonderful natural acidity, leaving it overnight in our coolroom before destemming and crushing the following morning, straight to the basket press before the juice is settled and racked to old French Oak barrels for a wild fermentation.
So what can you expect? A crisp, delicious white wine with a savoury edge and aromas and flavours of Meyer lemon and assorted citrus fruits along with tangy lemon sorbet and a fleeting glimpse of white flowers. There is a lovely line of bright, mineral-edged acidity and a vivid, dry finish that just tastes like sunshine. And that’s what we love about the variety. Enjoy!

Founded by veteran winemakers and longtime Barossa residents Michael Papps and Susan Yelland (now Susan Papps), Yelland + Papps combine technical expertise with an emphasis on sustainability and innovation.
